COLLABORATIONS

Volunteer Collaborations

The Senior Center relies heavily on volunteers for the operation of the Center and the Thrift Store.  We are grateful to be able to collaborate with other community organizations to provide services to the Sturgis community.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is located in Rapid City, South Dakota.  They are a volunteer network program for those that are 55 years and over. Most of our volunteers registered with RSVP.  For more information about this program, https://www.rcgov.org/departments/finance/r-svp-retired-senior-volunteer-program.html

The Senior Community Service Employment Program is located in Rapid City, South Dakota.  This U.S. Department of Labor funded program is for unemployed, low-income individuals age 55 and older.  The purpose of this program is to assist those that may have obstacles in gaining employment. Employment plans are made after assessing interests, skills and goals.  For more information about this program, https://dlr.sd.gov/workforce_services/individuals/scsep/default.aspx

The Meade County Senior Citizens Center is a member of the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau.  Collaboration with the Chamber leads to more efforts for the community. For more information, https://sturgisareachamber.com/?wpbdp_listing=meade-county-senior-citizens-center-assn

The National Indian Council on Aging (NICOA) is one of several national nonprofit agencies serving as a grantee to provide the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). SCSEP is a part-time, temporary job training program for eligible elders 55 and older. Subsidizing job training and building real world skills are the keys to NICOA’s SCSEP success in Indian Country since 1989. For more information about this program,
